This morning I asked my husband if he would go running / walking with me. He said “not right now.” I knew that meant he didn’t want to, and I also knew that if I waited on him, I wouldn’t want to go later either. I was caught in a moment.

Then I stumbled upon a friends FB post. He had just completed a marathon and was telling his story about a moment in his experience. He felt like he couldn’t go on at one point and there in front of him was a woman running with a t-shirt on that said, “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.” This bible scripture from Philippians 4:13 inspired him to keep going and finish the race. It also taught him a life lesson: never give up!

After listening to him talk about this scripture and his experience, I felt even more motivated to go out. So I got dressed and got my doggy’s harness on. I gave my husband another chance…”will you please go out with us?”. He knew I was going, with or without him. And once he knew I was serious, he got up and got dressed and went out with me.

To me, this was a spiritual moment in my day. God truly spoke to me through his scripture. It doesn’t matter what happens in life, no matter how painful, the Lord WILL strengthen me to continue on. This verse gets rid of every excuse we have. There is no such thing as “I can’t” when you have the faith and belief that God will get you through it.

Hudson Taylor said, “All Gods giants have been weak men, who did great things for God because they believed that God would be with them.”

Something as simple as getting off my butt to take a walk takes a tremendous amount of effort on my part. I praise the Lord that He is with me in the little things. I know that once He helps me work through the little things, He will walk me through the big things. As long as I allow God to help me and strengthen me everyday to get up and get moving, I know that by spring of next year, I will be the one saying I finished a marathon!!!
